Let us pray with today’s Gospel Reading (Matthew 5:20-26)

Lord Jesus Christ, 

You teach us today that our righteousness must surpass that of the scribes and Pharisees. You call us not only to avoid outward sin, but to purify our hearts from anger, resentment, and pride.

Search my heart, O Lord, and reveal the hidden faults that separate me from You and from my neighbor. Cleanse me of bitterness and harsh judgment. Remove from me every spirit of anger that wounds charity and breaks communion.

Lord, grant me the humility to seek reconciliation quickly. If I have injured a brother or sister, give me the courage to ask forgiveness. If I carry resentment, soften my heart to forgive as You forgive me.

Teach me, Lord, that true worship requires a pure heart. May I never approach Your altar while refusing peace to those around me. Help me to value unity, mercy, and love above pride and self-justification.

Lord, form in me a righteousness born of grace, not merely external obedience, but an interior holiness pleasing to the Father. Through Your mercy, reconcile me to You, that I may live in peace now and enter Your Kingdom with a heart made new. Amen
