Let us pray with today’s Gospel Reading (Luke 24:13-35):

Lord Jesus, Risen Saviour,

You who walked with the disciples on the road to Emmaus, we invite You to walk with us today as we celebrate and gather this Sunday. We thank You for the gift of our mothers, who serve as the first and most tender witnesses of Your love in our lives. Lord, we pray for our mothers, that they may find strength in the Emmaus Model of communication. Just as You listened patiently to the disciples in their sadness, we thank You for the “hospitality and kindness” of mothers who listen to our unspoken burdens. Grant them the grace to continue accompanying their families through every crisis, walking as redeemed pilgrims with hearts anchored in Your Resurrection

O Holy Spirit, open the hearts of our mothers to the light and truth of Your Word. As they have taught us with simplicity that God is love, may their own hearts burn within them whenever they approach the Scriptures. Help them to interpret the signs of Your presence in the unexpected places of daily life, guiding their children toward the truth that heals and gives hope.

We pray especially that our mothers may lead us always to a true encounter with You. In the breaking of the bread within our homes and at the altar, may their witness open our eyes to recognise You. Grant them reverent trust in Your providence, and may their lives be a bold proclamation that death does not have the final word and that Your joy is our fullness.

Bless all mothers, both living and departed, who have ransomed us from empty ways of life through their sacrifice and prayer. May they be communicators of the Risen Christ, speaking with the heart and setting our own hearts on fire with the flame of Your love. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen
