Let us pray with today’s Gospel Reading (Matthew 24:42-51): Memorial of Saint Monica

Lord Jesus Christ,

On this Memorial of Saint Monica, we thank You for the witness of a mother whose persistent prayer, patience, and faithful love became a powerful testimony of trust in Your providence. Today, You tell us: “Stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.” Lord, keep our hearts vigilant and our lives faithful. May we never become so distracted by the concerns of this world that we forget our ultimate call to live in Your presence.

Teach us, like St. Monica, to persevere in prayer even when our hopes seem delayed. Give us the patience to entrust our loved ones, our families, and our deepest concerns to You, knowing that Your grace works even when we cannot see the results.

Lord Jesus, make us faithful servants. May we use every opportunity You give us to serve rather than to dominate, to encourage rather than discourage, to forgive rather than condemn, and to love rather than seek our own interests. Bless our families, especially parents who worry about their children. Strengthen those who are praying for the conversion, healing, or return of someone they love. May Saint Monica’s example remind them never to lose hope in Your mercy. May she intercede for us to trust God when answers seem slow, to remain faithful when life is difficult, and to love without giving up. Amen
