Let us pray with today’s Gospel Reading (Luke 5:1-11): Memorial of Saint Gregory the Great, Pope and Doctor of the Church

Lord Jesus Christ,

On this Memorial of St. Gregory the Great, Pope and Doctor of the Church, we come before You with humble and grateful hearts. Today, Peter hears Your command, “Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch.” Though he had worked all night and caught nothing, Peter trusted Your word. At Your command, he let down the nets and witnessed an abundant catch.

Lord Jesus, teach us to trust You when our efforts seem fruitless, when our prayers appear unanswered, and when we feel tired from trying again and again. Give us the courage of Peter to say, “At your word I will lower the nets.” May we never allow disappointment to become stronger than our faith.

Lord, we thank You for the witness of St. Gregory the Great, a shepherd who placed himself at the service of Your Church. Like Peter, he responded to Your call and became a faithful servant of Your people. Give our Pope, bishops, priests, religious and all who serve the Church the humility, wisdom and courage of St. Gregory, so that they may lead Your people closer to Christ.

Lord, You told Peter, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching people.” Remove from us every fear that prevents us from answering Your call. Make our homes places where faith is lived, our words instrument of encouragement, and our lives nets through which Your mercy can reach others.

Lord, when You call us into deeper waters, do not let us remain on the shore. When You ask us to leave our comfort zones, give us courage. When You entrust someone to our care, give us patience and compassion. And when we recognize our own unworthiness, remind us that You do not call the perfect, you transform those who are willing to follow You. Amen
