Let us pray with today’s Gospel Reading (Matthew 9:9-13): Feast of Saint Matthew, Apostle and Evangelist

Lord Jesus Christ,

Today we rejoice in the Feast of St. Matthew, Apostle and Evangelist, whom You called from the tax collector’s table with the simple words: “Follow me.” Matthew left his old life behind and followed You. He reminds us that no past, failure, occupation, or weakness is too great for Your mercy. You do not call only those who are perfect; You call sinners, heal them, transform them, and send them forth as witnesses of Your Gospel.

Lord, call us again today. When we are distracted, call us. When we are discouraged, call us. When we have fallen, call us back. When we are comfortable in our old ways, give us the courage to rise and follow You.

Lord Jesus, teach us, like St. Matthew, to respond generously when You call. Help us to leave behind whatever prevents us from becoming the person You desire us to be. Give us the humility to recognize our own need for Your mercy. Heal the w0unds of our heart and free us from pride, judgment, resentment, and sin.

Lord, make us compassionate toward those whom society rejects or overlooks. Help us never to consider anyone beyond the reach of Your mercy. Give us the grace to welcome sinners, encourage the discouraged, forgive those who hurt us, and lead others gently toward Your loving Heart.

St. Matthew, teach us to treasure the Gospel, proclaim it with courage, and live it faithfully. Pray that we may have the courage to leave our “tax collector’s table”, whatever keeps us attached to ourselves, and follow Jesus wholeheartedly. Lord, may our homes, workplaces, communities, and parishes become places where people encounter Your mercy.

Lord Jesus, thank You for calling ordinary people and transforming them into instruments of Your grace. May our life become a living Gospel, so that through our words and actions others may discover Your mercy and love. Amen
