Let us pray with today’s Gospel Reading (Matthew 20:17-28)

Lord Jesus Christ,
as You journeyed toward Jerusalem, You spoke of Your Passion,
of betrayal, suffering, and death, and of the Resurrection to come.
You walked freely toward the Cross, embracing the Father’s will with love. Give us courage, Lord, to follow You on the road that leads through sacrifice. When I fear suffering or avoid the cost of discipleship, strengthen my heart with trust in Your promises.

Lord, You taught Your disciples that greatness in Your Kingdom is not found in power or prestige, but in service and self-giving love. “You did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give Your life as a ransom for many.”

Purify my ambitions, O Lord. Remove the desire to be first, to be recognized, to be praised. Instead, grant me the grace to seek the lowest place, to serve quietly, to love generously. Make me attentive to those who suffer, patient with those who struggle, and humble in all that I do. Teach me that true authority is exercised through compassion, and true leadership through sacrifice.

Lord Jesus, when I am tempted to measure success by the standards of the world, remind me that Your throne was the Cross and Your crown was of thorns. Lord Jesus, let my life reflect Your self-giving love and may I drink the cup You offer me, trusting that beyond every Good Friday lies the glory of Easter morning. Amen
