Let us pray with today’s Gospel Reading (Matthew 11:25-27): Feast of Saint Bonaventure, Bishop, and Doctor of the Church
Loving Father,
We praise and thank You for the gift of this new day and for the witness of St. Bonaventure, whose wisdom, holiness, and love for Christ continue to inspire Your Church. As we celebrate his feast, we thank You for raising him up as a faithful shepherd, an outstanding teacher, and a humble disciple who sought not worldly glory but the knowledge that leads to eternal life.
Lord Jesus, You rejoice in the Father because He reveals the mysteries of the Kingdom to the humble and the little ones. Free our hearts from pride, self-sufficiency, and the illusion that we can know You by our own strength. Grant us the humility to receive Your truth with the simplicity of children and the openness of sincere disciples.
Like St. Bonaventure, may we seek wisdom not merely to increase our knowledge but to deepen our love for You. Help us to understand that true theology begins in prayer, grows through contemplation, and bears fruit in lives of charity and service.
Lord, reveal the Father’s love to all who seek You. Enlighten the minds of students, teachers, theologians, catechists, and all who proclaim the Gospel. May they always unite sound doctrine with holiness of life, so that their teaching may lead others to an encounter with Christ. Bless Your Church with pastors who are wise, humble, and faithful. Strengthen our Holy Father, bishops, priests, deacons, and all who serve Your people. May they reflect the compassion, wisdom, and simplicity of the Good Shepherd.
O Holy Spirit, open our minds to understand the Scriptures and inflame our hearts with the love of God. Teach us to recognize Christ in the Eucharist, in His Word, and in our brothers and sisters, especially the poor, the forgotten, and those searching for hope.
St. Bonaventure, Seraphic Doctor of the Church, obtain for us the grace to unite faith with reason, knowledge with holiness, and learning with humble love. Lead us ever closer to Jesus, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and truth. Amen
