Let us pray with today’s Gospel Reading (Matthew 12:1-8):

God Our Father,

On this Friday, as we lovingly remember the saving Passion and Death of Your Son, Jesus Christ, we thank You for the immeasurable gift of Your mercy. Through the Cross, You revealed that love is greater than sacrifice, mercy stronger than judgment, and life more powerful than death.

Lord Jesus, You remind us that “I desire mercy, not sacrifice.” Teach us to worship You not only with our lips but with hearts full of compassion, humility, and love. May our religious practices always lead us to greater charity, forgiveness, and service to our brothers and sisters.

Forgive us, Lord, for the times we have been quick to judge others while forgetting our own need for Your mercy. Help us never to reduce our faith to external observances alone, but to live the Gospel with sincerity and joy. May every prayer we offer, every sacrifice we make, and every act of devotion draw us closer to You and make us more merciful toward others.

As we contemplate Your Holy Cross today, Lord, give us the grace to embrace our daily crosses with patience and trust. Strengthen those who are weary, comfort the sick, console the grieving, and renew hope in all who are burdened by life’s trials. Amen
